Charlotte-bound flight delayed due to bomb threat :: WRAL.com
A routine flight from Austin to Charlotte was disrupted due to a suspicious WiFi hotspot name that included the word “bomb,” the police department confirmed to WCNC Charlotte on Monday.
American Airlines Flight 2863 from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to Charlotte Douglas International Airport was evacuated after the wireless internet network was spotted.
The airline crew alerted authorities to the potential threat. The plane returned to the gate where police searched the baggage and aircraft while the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) re-screened the the passengers.Β
The aircraft was cleared around 4:40 p.m., and the re-screening process for passengers concluded by 5 p.m. The flight eventually departed at approximately 6:15 p.m. The aircraft arrived over four hours later.Β
